Yesterday my Dad turned 61. He has learned a lot in those 61 years and passed on many stories and wisdom to me from his life.
I don't know that I have ever spoken much about the relationship and memories from my life with my Dad. We have had our ups and downs, but I have always know that I was his baby girl. His first little girl. As my Dad jokes, one of the first things he said after I was born was that I would never be allowed to walk to school. lol He was protective of me from the very beginning and that has molded our relationship into something that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.
One of my best memories with my Dad is singing along and listening as he played many songs on his guitar. My favorites that I still sing to this day are songs from James Taylor, The Beatles & Simon and Garfunkel. "Carolina in my Mind" by James Taylor will always be my favorite and bring back many emotions and memories every time that I hear it. My Father gave me a wonderful gift...a love and passion for music. It is something that I have passed on to my children. I am so very grateful to him for this. It is a door for such a special bond between a parent and child. I love being able to sing my children to sleep and that they want me to do it.
I know that he has not been the perfect Father and I am okay with that. No one is perfect and we all learn from our past mistakes. I am just so glad that he is MY Dad. I know how much he loves me and I can only hope he knows how much I love and care for him. He will be my Daddy no matter where life takes either of us.
I love you Daddy! I am so grateful for the bond that we have and I feel so lucky to have you in my life. To me, you are the best Dad in the world. You are my hero. You are my rock and I will always be your baby girl. :)
